Children's Book Illustrator
Poppy Flinch is a well-known illustrator whose whimsical creatures and soft watercolor worlds have appeared in over 70 children’s books. Her illustrations are filled with sleepy turtles, flying teacups, and one very nervous raccoon named Gerald. She is beloved by readers for creating characters that look like they’ve just heard a funny secret.
Poppy was born on December 17, 1975, in Thimblewhisk, Oregon. As a child, she was never without a sketchbook and frequently illustrated her dreams, some of which involved spaghetti storms. Her parents once found over 300 tiny drawings of smiling clouds hidden under her bed.
Poppy continues to illustrate books and recently launched her own line of bedtime-themed coloring books. She also runs a gentle YouTube series where she draws and reads quietly to her cat, Biscuit. Poppy occasionally teaches workshops where kids draw characters based on the sound of their giggles.
Poppy has helped shape the visual tone of modern children's literature with her warm, imaginative style. Her art is known for making children feel safe and curious at the same time. She’s also pioneered the use of scent-infused pages in picture books.
She once illustrated an entire book upside-down as a challenge.
Her pet parrot once got a book deal by scribbling on her art.
