Lowl
Lowl
The Lowl is a striking half-lion, half-owl animal with a powerful and intimidating appearance. It has the body of an owl, covered in thick feathers, but its face is that of a lion, complete with a full mane that frames its head. The Lowl also has a lion’s tail, strong lion legs and paws, and large owl wings that stretch wide when it takes flight. This unusual combination gives it the strength of a lion and the silent precision of an owl.
The Lowl was discovered by Kate while she was in a forested area. She first noticed a deep rustling sound and then saw a large shadow move quickly between the trees. When the animal stepped into a clearing, she could clearly see a lion’s face surrounded by a mane, attached to a feathered body. Before she could get closer, the creature ran at incredible speed across the forest floor, then suddenly spread its wings and flew straight up into the trees. Tracks with large paw prints were later found on the ground, along with feathers caught on low branches. This sighting, and Kate's drawing led to the official discovery of the animal now known as the Lowl.
Lowls live in the forest, especially areas with tall trees and open spaces for flying. They prefer places where they can perch high above the ground but also have room to run. Forests provide the perfect mix of cover, hunting areas, and quiet spaces for rest.
Lowls eat mice and meat, making them carnivores. They hunt small animals from the air like owls, but they can also chase prey on the ground using their powerful lion legs. Their sharp vision helps them hunt both day and night.
Lowls can run really fast using their strong lion legs and paws, easily dodging trees and roots. When needed, they spread their owl wings and fly very fast, gliding silently through the forest. They can switch between running and flying almost instantly.
