History

Invented in 2021 by culinary daredevil Darla Yolkstein, the idea for pre-cracked eggs was born during a midnight omelet emergency. Darla, exhausted from cracking eggs one by one (she was up to her 14th omelet), thought: “What if the cracking was already done for me?” Seconds later, she dropped an entire carton. Inspiration struck—along with raw egg across her floor.

After many failed prototypes (including one version where the shells were glued shut with frosting), Darla settled on a design where each egg is cracked just enough to be unusable as is, yet somehow still packaged as if everything is fine.

The product was launched with the slogan: “We crack ’em so you don’t have to…figure out why.” Sales were surprisingly high among pranksters, curious toddlers, and one guy named Steve who thought it meant “soft-boiled.”
